Arab States Start Media Campaign
Arab information ministers have begun a $22 million media campaign to denounce what they call Israel's racist policy toward Palestinians and to counter terrorist accusations in the West against Arabs.

Part of the money will pay for an Arab media observatory in Europe or the United States that will respond to portrayals of "the Palestinian struggle as terrorism." Funds will also be used for English- and Hebrew-speaking services on Arab public and private television, said the Syrian information minister, Adnan Omran.

The statement on Thursday did not refer to a ban on Arab television interviews with Israeli officials, which had been suggested. Such a measure would have mainly affected the Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite channel.

The statement called on Arab and international news media to "engage in an organized effort to gather evidence of Israeli war crimes in order to put Israeli generals, officers and settlers on trial before international courts."
