Tech Update Talkback We should all be concerned about the loss of "biodiversity" in the hardware market. At one time we had PA-RISC, Alpha, and MIPS in addition to the current crop (PowerPC, SPARC, Intel/AMD). If we lose SPARC, we'll be down to two microprocessor architectures- PowerPC and Intel/AMD. As it is we're losing diversity in the OS arena; we're heading towards two OS's- Linux and Windows.

I'm all for cost savings and price/performance etc., but we need some diversity in the computer ecosystem or we could be headed towards catastrophe should a super scourge (virus, worm, trojan, etc.) descend upon us.
