Medics Move Wounded Palestinians Through Battle Zone
"We have people ringing to say they have injured, but the ambulances are not allowed to move," Dr. Afir said. "They are killing them, and we can't do anything about it."

The Israeli Army says that it tries to coordinate safe passage for ambulances through battle zones, but that it is often hard to get the Palestinian gunmen to stop shooting. In addition, Israeli soldiers routinely stop and search ambulances, because, Israeli officials say, they have been used to transport terrorists and weapons, including a suicide-bombing belt.

Beat Mosimann, the Nablus representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross, said he helped set up the field hospital in the mosque just before the Israeli invasion, which began before dawn on Thursday.

Since Friday night, he said, ambulances had not been able to move. Today, he said, the medics did not have permission from the army when they decided to carry the wounded out on foot.
