Administrators of a hospital here have apologized to employees because supervisors complied with the demand of a pregnant patient's husband that no black employees assist in the delivery of his child.

Supervisors at Abington Memorial Hospital, in a suburb of Philadelphia, agreed to prevent black employees from entering the patient's room for several days last month, a decision the hospital's president, Richard L. Jones Jr., called "morally reprehensible." The incident was first reported on Friday in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
